The challenge

The client manufactured equipment across industries including digital devices, automotive manufacturing and semiconductors. While it had maintained or increased share in several markets, performance within one industrial vertical had begun to lag.

Management was therefore looking beyond incremental sales growth. It wanted to understand which next-generation technologies and manufacturing processes would define the coming market, and how the company's equipment portfolio should evolve in response.

This required insight into future growth drivers, emerging customer requirements, competitive pricing and the partnerships shaping the European manufacturing ecosystem.

What we did

Our work combined forward-looking technology research with detailed analysis of the competitive and commercial environment.

  1. 01

    Industry and technology research

We engaged experts within the European battery manufacturing sector and adjacent industries to understand how production requirements were evolving and which technologies were attracting investment.

  2. 02

    Competitive intelligence

More than twenty international and European databases were analysed to assess competitor activity, market development and pricing. We complemented this with non-public intelligence covering delivery lead times, customer feedback, operational strategies and supplier relationships.

  3. 03

    Customer needs and technology fit

We identified the challenges manufacturers were encountering with existing equipment and assessed which emerging technologies could address those limitations.

  4. 04

    Partnership and go-to-market analysis

Strategic partnerships and competitor relationships were mapped to understand how leading companies were approaching distribution, market access and technology development.

The outcome

The project identified the next-generation technologies with the strongest relevance to the client's future equipment portfolio and connected them directly to emerging customer requirements.

Management gained a more detailed understanding of competitor pricing, supplier relationships and the strategic partnerships influencing market development. Rather than treating product development and market expansion as separate questions, the strategy brought them together into a single roadmap.

This gave the client a clearer basis for prioritising product development and positioning the business for deeper European penetration.
