Building a Five-Region Regulatory Roadmap For New Robotics & Automation Products

A Top 10 global robotics and industrial automation manufacturer was preparing three new products for international launch. We mapped regulatory requirements across the EU, UK, United States, Canada and India and built a prioritisation strategy to integrate compliance into the product roadmap.

The challenge

The client had three new products under development with the intention of launching them globally. The commercial opportunity was significant, but each target market brought a different regulatory environment for hardware and software.

The company needed more than a list of regulations. Product teams required a clear understanding of the relevant requirements, approval pathways, key deadlines and implementation considerations in the EU, UK, United States, Canada and India.

Without a consolidated view, regulatory work risked becoming fragmented by geography, potentially creating unnecessary complexity within the development programme or delaying market entry.

What we did

We approached regulation as a product and market sequencing question rather than a compliance exercise alone.

  1. 01

    Regulatory landscape mapping

We identified the hardware and software regulations relevant to each of the three products across all five target regions.

  2. 02

    Expert validation

Regulatory experts were engaged globally to validate requirements and provide practical insight into approval processes, implementation considerations and timelines.

  3. 03

    Multi-source regulatory research

More than twenty-five regulatory and industry sources were reviewed and analysed, giving the client a consolidated view of requirements that had previously been distributed across different jurisdictions and frameworks.

  4. 04

    Regional prioritisation

We translated the analysis into a regulatory prioritisation strategy, helping management determine which regions to address first and how regulatory requirements should be incorporated into the wider product roadmap.

The outcome

The client gained a single strategic view of the regulatory requirements affecting all three products across five major regions, delivered within three weeks.

Instead of treating each jurisdiction as an isolated compliance exercise, management could compare regulatory requirements, approval pathways and implementation needs within one framework. This allowed regulatory activity to be sequenced deliberately rather than jurisdiction by jurisdiction, and compliance considerations to be incorporated earlier into product planning.

Is this your situation?

This engagement may be relevant if you are developing hardware or software products for multiple international markets and need to understand not only what regulations apply, but also how regulatory complexity should influence product development and market sequencing. If that sounds familiar, we would be glad to discuss it.
